The Carolina Chocolate Drops!!!!!

I saw them by accident in the fall when they opened for Grace Potter. And they blew my mind. Now they came to Dartmouth for both a performance and a jam session! The jam was straight up amazing and by 9PM, with only a few of us still there, it turned into some great blues dancing! Yeehaw!

I've been turning wood bowls at the wood shop since this fall. This spring, one of my bowls was chosen for a display of student art at The HOP, Dartmouth's performing art center and home to the wood and jewelry shops.  Pretty cool!

sugaring!

I now am in NH during one of the coolest seasons of the year - maple sugaring season. This is when people rush to put taps into all of their maples, collect a ton of sap (literally), and boil it down into maple syrupy deliciousness. Sap runs in maple trees when the temperatures freeze, then thaw. Somehow that causes the sap to flow up, and you can collect that sap without hurting the tree.

With 40 gallons of sap, you get 1 gallon of maple syrup. The farm we visited, already made 125 gallons of syrup. Syrup. Do the math - that is a lot! Back in the old days, farmers would collect sap from buckets with a horse drawn sled, but now the lines make it a lot easier.

The farm's owner, John, has been sugaring his whole life and among other things, fixes up tractors and cars, like this 1942 Chevy firetruck. As for sugaring, John still gets sugaring heat from wood.

If he switched to oil, what would he do with his time? It would be like watching sap boil. Not a bad life. And pretty tasty too!

From stitches! Not bad eh?

Seder

It is a Passover tradition. Once a year friends and I cook a lot of really good traditional jewish food and attempt to remember how to pronounce the hebrew Seder. This year was no different. We printed a few copies of the Seder, and got to work. It turns out, hebrew words are hard to pronounce, and as one of the youngest, the four questions were a bit of a struggle. But eating a whole bunch of charoset was no struggle at all!

Latest hockey ever!

Even though I couldn't play, I still headed out to the Collier pond after I received an email saying that we would have the chance to play hockey the latest that they had ever played. Also, there was food and fun, so I couldn't resist!
